1. Write a letter to your friend, describing the happiest day of your life.
Katihar (Bihar)
15th June, 2022
My dear Gupta,
Yesterday was the happiest day for me for the Bihar; Secondary School results were out, and I had topped the list of successful candidates, securing at the same time a Government scholarship of Rs. 30. The school was closed for the day in my honour. Almost the whole school came to congratulate me on my brilliant success in the Board examination, and garlanded me profusely. I eulogized in the press and idolised by my friends and relatives. My photograph appeared in The Indian Nation and my name came to be written on the Honours' Board in the School Hall.
My parents were highly proud of my achievement and gave me a hundred rupees for a grand tea party in the evening. I invited all my friends on this occassion who spoke highly of my qualities of head and heart. All this filled me with a sense of pride and joy. I felt the hero of the occasion. And who would not feel proud of such a grand success? Had I not brought honour to my school and name to my family? 23dorm I hope that you too will be able to set up such a brilliant record in the
Matriculation Examination next year.
With best wishes,
Yours very sincerely,
Raj

Dear Prasad,
I was delighted to learn from your brother yesterday that you had been appointed General Manager of the National Airways, Kolkata. It is a matter of great rejoicing to find responsible appointments conferred upon competent men. I was very pleased with the news and congratulate you heartily on your appointment. The position is an honourable and responsible one, but I am quite confident that you are fully equipped to discharge the onerous duties attaching to it. You have not only a mind capable of grasping all the ins and outs of an industrial concern but also possess qualities that go to the making of a capable administrator. Under your administration the business may
develop to an extent hither not to anticipated. Please accept my heartiest congratulations upon your getting such an appointment. With best wishes, I am,
Yours very sincerely,

3. Write a letter to a friend, who has recently lost his mother.

28th July, 2022
Dear Shyam,
I cannot tell you how deeply grieved I was to hear the sad news of your mother's death. Words are so feeble and futile at a time like this but I must send you a few lines to tell you how I feel for you. I hope you have been able to find some consolation in the knowledge that your dear mother was in every act, deed and word a noble woman. She was noble in every sense of the term; her chartis so unostentatiously dispensed, her cheerful willingness to releive any real distress, her ripe wisdom and experience, endured her to all. I realise the intensity of your sorrow - the loneliness and regrets and the sense of irreparable loss, and offer you my heartfelt sympathy in your grief.
I know no amount of written consolation can assuage your grief, for the heart alone knoweth its own bitterness, and see, perhaps little or no ray of light on any side. May God help you and send you comfort in his own way, and lead you to find the consolation that time brings for all earthly sorrow. I hope you are bearing up bravely.
Yours in sympathy,
Raja

Dear Sirs,
In answer to your advertisement for a Junior Shorthand Typist which appeared in the Daily Mail of yesterday's date I beg to submit my application for the post as I desire to obtain employment with a larger firm than that with which I am at present.

9. Write a letter to a news paper, appealing for help for the victims of a flood.
To,
The Hindustan Times,
Sir,
I have just returned from a tour of the flood-affected areas in Bihar where unprecedented havoc and destruction have taken place.
No doubt people are already familiar with the terrible tragedy that has overtaken in Bihar, but the account of an eye witness will bring home to the people with all the greater effect the trible distress which these disastrous floods have been swept away and the crops over a large area destroyed. Thousands of villagers have been rendered destitute and homeless and are starving. They have lost all their property, and most of them have nothing but the cloths in which they managed to escape somehow. They are living in temporary shelters exposed to all the inclemency of the weather, without proper food and clothes.
The Government is no doubt doing all it can to relieve the immediate distress, but unless public funds are raised and people make liberal contributions it is not possible to rehabilitate the flood-affected victims. When the flood subside, villages will have to be rebuilt and the villagers will have to be supplied with seed, fodder, cattle and farm implements, before they can start work again.
I therefore, strongly appeal to the people to help the government in the humanitarian task of relieving the poor sufferers by contributing generously to the Prime Ministers Relief Fund and thus earn the gratitude of their distressed fellow brotheen.
I remain,
Yours faithfully,
D.B. Singh
10. To Newspaper, complaining against the insanitary condition in your town.
To
The Editor
The Indian Nation
Patna
The condition of sanitation in our Town, Jamalpur, has always been deplorable. But the recent flood havoc has aggravated the situation still further. The city fathers are, as usual, busy in their own petty squabbles and have neither the time nor the willingness to improve the wretched condition.
Pools of water are standing all round and place of mosquitoes. Malaria, which is almost an epidemic in this locality, has taken a heavy toll of life this year. The antimalaria campaign started by the municipal committee has been utterly inadequate. Foul smell arising out of these pools is a new irritant to the long-suffering citizens.
The roads are mere apologies and can hardly be called roads by any stretch of imagination. The recent floods have washed out the earth-work at many places and traffic has come to a standstill. No vigorous efforts are being made repair these. There are at places deep holes and routs with the result that travelling over these roads in the dark is extremely risky. Many unsuspecting cyclist has bones on these roads during the last month or so. .
There is much, however, for which the citizens themselves are to blameThey heap to refuse in the streets and do everything in their power to cause inconvenience. It is high time that they and the municipal authorities woke up from their let hargy.
Yours truly,
Ram Singh

11. Write a letter to the Municipal Officer of your locality drawing his attention to a long-standing nuisance.
Main Road
Motihari July 4, 2022
To
The Health Officer,
The Municipal Corporation,
Patna
Dear Sir,
I beg to call your attention to a long standing nuisance in the vicinity of 'Sonar Patti'.
For the last six months no dust-bin has been supplied by the Corporation in this locality. The place is thickly populated and for want of a dust-bin all the refuse from the neighboring houses is dumped in the middle of the street. The women find it easier to throw waste matter through the windows to accumulate in heaps on the road than to dispose it of properly. The flies buzzing about and feeding on the putrid matter, the stink issuing from it, to say nothing of the manner in which the rubbish is littered all over the lane, are an intolerable nuisance to the residents of this locality. If the present state of affairs continues, an epidemic is likely to break out.
I hope you will realise the immediate necessity of supplying two or three dust-bins and issuing such instructions to Sanitary Inspectors as will make the dumping of rubbish on the roadside impossible.
Yours faithfully. R.K. Kapoor
